How Long Does It Really Take to Build a Custom Home?

Turner

A lot of folks ask me how long it’ll take to build their custom home, and the answer is never a quick one. It’s not something I can tell you over the phone in a minute or two, but I can tell you this right away: it takes the time it takes to do it right. First off, the design phase can be a journey in itself. You’re not just envisioning your dream home, but working through HOA architectural committees in places like Fredericksburg or Dripping Springs. I’ve been doing this for years, so I know how to navigate those waters.
Now, once we’re through the design stage, construction is where the real discipline comes in. I’m on every job site because that’s where the work happens, not from an office. You’re talking about making sure one trade finishes and the next starts the same day. That trade-to-trade handoff is what keeps the schedule moving.
Rushing a build never makes sense to me because it creates problems down the road. We’re talking about pouring concrete, framing, electrical—every step builds on the last. Quality materials and sticking to the schedule takes time, no shortcuts.
You should also know that I don’t take on more than eight to twelve homes a year so I can stay involved in every project. From highways around Bexar County to the outskirts of Bandera, I’m on site every working day to make sure every board is placed just the way it should be.
